'Officially'

Starting today, I am officially a laid off employee doing freelance work for the next two weeks at the studio that laid me off. Sound confusing? It is for me too. All I know is that I had to sign a pile of paperwork (which I read very very carefully), they gave me some checks with moneys, and then I deposited them.

Working in a studio was fun, but the process was definitely a bit confusing. One of the things I disliked the most was having to stop and start things repeatedly if something came up and became priority over the other thing I was working on, I'd have to put it aside, remind myself to get back to it later, and then start on the new thing. At least it was organized, or it was until the production manager got laid off and there were instances of:

Director: I need to use Jean! She needs to make a last minute prop for a last minute scene and it's the animator's last day!
Lady Boss: *I* need to use Jean! I contracted her to work on two games with fifty million things that we've needed to finish forever! I got her FIRST! (she did too)
Random Boss: No, *I* need to use Jean! We just got a potential client and we have to send potential artwork to them and we have no more artists, just her!
Me: ...am I turning into the studio bicycle?

*note: didn't happen exactly like this, exaggerated for hilarity!

Maybe they decided they could get you cheaper for freelance? Or they could stop paying benefits or something? I don't know. Anyway...sorry it's like that. Take the money and find somewhere new. You have talent--you're bound to be employable eventually. *high five un/underemployment*

Well, it's because there's no work after these small projects. XD And yeah, also so they could stop paying benefits. But I made all of my doctors and dentist visits before it ended so I'm safe! Plus, I'm now on COBRA insurance so it should last me for awhile. :D *HIGH FIVE*
