Harry Potter 3!!

Lj-cut because of spoilers.

Things I liked:
-Glimpses of a Ron x Hermione relationship
-More twins action!
-A jolly Dumbledore, one who wasn't so frail. Richard Harris, although an awesome Dumbledore, acted too old and not so happy as I have envisioned Dumbledore to be.
-Sirius Black was awesome.
-Peter Pettigrew was very accurate!
-Silly Ron antics got even sillier.
-Emma Watson, this was probably the best movie she's done for Harry Potter yet!
-Buckbeak!!! OMG I LOVE Buckbeak! Buckbeack for president and dead ferrets for all!
- Hermione being scared of flying XD
- Emma Thompson as Professor Trelawny! YAY!
-Hermione flooring Draco >=D
-Draco shrieking and running like a girl.
-Snape protecting the students. Awwww.
- Harry crying. He needs a huuuuug!
-Daniel Radcliff. I knew he was going to become quite a cutie!

Things I didn't like
-Nearly all the scenes started RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE. There was no build-up, nor beginning-middle-end. The movie was generally rushed through the beginning and the middle to get to the end.
-Lupin's moustache. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! No need to make the man ugly!
-Dumbledore was waaaaay too stern in the beginning.
- HARRY DOING MAGIC IN THE OPENING! What is up with that? He was practicing a LIGHT SPELL when the RULES ARE SET IN STONE REGARLDESS OF MOVIE OR BOOK that students will be EXPELLED for doing magic outside of school during break unless they are of age. HARRY IS THIRTEEN!
- Practically no mention at all of the Wolfsbane Potion. Snape needs to bring the potion to Lupin to catch sight of the Marauder's Map to get to the Whomping Willow so he knows that Harry and others are in there!
- Werewolf Lupin looking more like a human than wolf. Scratch that. Werewolf Lupin looking like Scooby Doo.
- No explaination AT ALL who Moony, Wormtail, Prongs, and Padfoot are.
- Lack of general Snape-ness.
- Lack of general twins-ness, but I'm getting used to that.
- Lack of OLIVER WOOD!
- Lack of GINNY.
- Three Broomsticks turning into a BAR instead of a PUB.
- The Patronus Charm that Harry summoned to save himself. When Past!Harry looked at it from across the lake, it looked cool. When Present!Harry did it to save Past!Harry, it looked like a spotlight shining on Harry's face... which is what it was. No showing PRONGS at all!
- Harry not telling Dumbledore about Professor Trelawny's prediction. Dumbledore needs to know these things!

Generally, I was disappointed =(

I'd be more pissed over the things they left out (and am about the Mauraders/Potion) and the things they took liberties with had I had really high expectations. I just learned not to get overly excited about seeing the books on film ~ just seeing a pretty fun movie. It's really hard and it took the major disappointments of the 2nd movie to get me this way (the movie would have been cooler + pulled off had the ending not totally KILLED it).
*pat,pat*
I just know - as I am sure everyone else by now does - not to expect big things from the 4th movie. I'm actually chuckling like "Let's see them pull THIS one off!" :P

Well I've learned a great deal about filmmaking through some friends...

With the books getting longer now, a great deal really has to be cut to keep the movie a normal length. There isnt enough time to build every scene. Also, even though I was annoyed that they left out important things, they DID do this on purpose (though I cant quite figure out why yet). Some people are saying they purposely wanted the audience to question and think (as opposed to the previous movies where people felt like they were treated like they had no clue and were talked down to--this movie treated the audience as adults). Lets just say that we can anticipate the DVD with the deleted scenes and see whats on there =)

I agree. They could only do so much given the time limit they could have in theaters.

yeah, the movie definately felt rushed. even though i haven't read the books it still felt like way too much information was being tossed out at once. like when they get to the tree and harry finds out that sirius didn't betray his parents. i mean, that was just like so sudden. like they were just going "Oh yeah, btw, i didn't betray your parents" and oh yeah "this guy did" and oh yeah "I'm a wolf" and oh yeah "i'm your godfather" and oh yeah..e tc etc.. wayyy too much info.

and how come when the past harry passed out, future harry didn't pass out? shouldn't he have passed out too because that's what happened in the future?

but well, i still liked it. can't you just FEEL the teenage hormones rushing?! haha.

Actually, I figure that by the third time I've seen it, I'll like it a lot better. I was really disappointed when the 1st movie came out, but after seeing it a few times, I liked it a lot. Same goes for the 2nd movie. I figure I won't get a real idea of how well done the 3rd movie was done until my dad and Alex have seen it, since reading the books has made me biased. :P

There was no other way they could have squished a 300+ page book into a 2 1/2 hour movie. They had to do what they had to do.

That was my take when I first found out that they casted David Thewlis as Lupin. His nose is too big. He got the character down. Lupin wasn't supposed to be handsome anyways.

They added the scene with Harry using magic in the opening because they wanted to show how much Harry looked forward to Hogwarts.

They couldn't get into all of the detail behind the Marauder's Map. I guess you have to hope the audience will read the book because it does all the explaining.

Ginny was like an extra in the movie. Her role won't be big till Book 5.

The quidditch scene had to be truncated which meant no Oliver Wood and no Cho Chang.

The movie was really funny!

Expect a lot of stuff to be eliminated in the 4th movie. Yup, they're going to film GoF into one movie. They're also going to leave out the Dursleys. I think they'll just focus on the Triwizard Tournament, the Yule Ball, and the return of Voldemorte. They're not going to get bogged down with the elf brigade and Rita Skeeter.

I felt that the introductions of the new characters were pretty brief such as Professor Trelawney and Sirius Black. I really wanted to see more of Black. At least he'll be back in the 4th movie.
