Are You on MyFace?

Internets, I ask you: do I really NEED a Facebook account?

I already have two different LJ accounts, a myspace account, a twitter account and a LinkedIn account, not to mention accounts on blogger and deviantart (which I don't use but have). All these social networking sites and I still get scolded because I don't have a Facebook account! "Everyone's on Facebook, Jean." Well, no, not everyone, because I'M not on it. :P Ilana, my greatest ally in this has buckled and submitted to the Facebook craze. Wah.

Personally, I think I social network enough. But if it's really going to be extremely beneficial to me then I'd get it, but if not, I'm happy where I am. I have too many accounts to things already. :P

No. Avoid like the plague.

I've had that account forever, basically was guilted into getting it before graduation to keep in touch with my college pals.

No you do not. Which is to say: I function perfectly well without one, please don't leave our poor endangered species of Homo Nonfacebookius. :) In my experience the people most in love with Facebook are the ones without LJ accounts, who did not know what they were missing until they found it somewhere else.

I am on LinkedIn but that's a purely professional consideration, and I only pay attention to it about once every other month.

I shall have to link to you or something when I log in to Linked In... someday... XD

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Don't be offended if it takes me a couple months to accept your invitation... :)

I have a facebook but only because myspace gets on my last nerve with the crap and twitter *shudder* don't even get me started. Really it does seem like everyone is on facebook but I think it's because you can catch up with everyone at a glance but it's not a scitzo's dream like twitter.

[identity profile] rasetsu.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally agree! Kill your myspace. LinkedIn is good for professional networking. Twitter is annoying. Facebook is the easiest one to find people and catch up.

[identity profile] phavorianne.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreeing, too.

I hate all the different accounts to manage, but I am thinking of getting a Facebook account.

[identity profile] bluejeans07.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm actually really enjoying twitter. XD I follow a lot of people in different countries and timezones and during really slow days at work, it's constantly entertaining. It's one of those things where people either like it or they don't from what I'm noticing. I know I can sound annoying on twitter (especially when I'm bored at work and my tweets turn into, "Brain is turning into mush and dribbling out of my ears, send porn, anime, or chocolate stat") but it's been really fun. I follow a lot of artists too who tweet their progress on paintings and show pictures. XD

[identity profile] phavorianne.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, yeah, I imagine for some Twitter is fun. I personally would just try too hard to micromanage everything.

[identity profile] bluejeans07.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
It would turn into your to do list XD

[identity profile] lynxgriffin.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have a Facebook either, and I've never really desired one. I do all my social networking on LJ and dA and that takes up plenty of my time...why make it more complicated on myself?

Although hey, I'm also on LinkedIn for my professional stuff; you wanna link with me? :D

[identity profile] bluejeans07.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
I DO! I shall have to do that!! :D

[identity profile] ravenfrogsuperk.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Myspace is getting to be useless unless you are a band. I block tweeters who tweet every 30 minutes on twitter (Which I rarely check or post). Facebook really seems to combine LJ, Twitter, and a few other sites well, but you have block a lot of apps when you are starting out. Also, avoid Mafia Wars, it is a sick obsession (aka addictive game) that is hard to leave alone for an hour.

[identity profile] babysnowleopard.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering Facebook is the #1 largest networking site (and Twitter is #2), if you really want to network and keep up with people, yes, you should get a Facebook account. And ditch MySpace.

As soon as my web site is up, I'm getting one too. Right now I don't have the brainspace to process something new XD haha.

[identity profile] bluejeans07.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I got the myspace in order to keep in contact with my college friends... who are all probably on facebook by now. XD

[identity profile] babysnowleopard.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Exaaaaactly XD!!

[identity profile] f4l.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I use Facebook to social network with 'real life' people as my LJ is for the internets, my MySpace is for musics, my Twitter is for primarily for my celeb following and I use Tumblr for random stuff I like. At the very least Facebook is good for photo sharing and the like.

LinkedIn is something I keep getting invites and such to; what is it exactly?

[identity profile] bluejeans07.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's kind of a... resume site I suppose? Like some sort of job referral site, you make a profile that consists of your work experience and your skills, and you connect to say coworkers or other people in your industry. You can also have people write recommendations about you and stuff. Very helpful to me personally, recruiters from a lot of studios have LinkedIn profiles and check around for potential employees.

[identity profile] rapunzel4.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't really need one. I wasn't going to get one, but I was finally shamed into joining when my mother got an account before I did. ^.^;

[identity profile] bluejeans07.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHA! That's the same reason Ilana ended up getting one!

I've mostly been thinking about it because apparently it's a good way to connect and keep in touch with people in the industry. But I've heard that argument before about... like... everything.

Hold strong! Someone but me must continue to refuse Facebook! XD

Resist the lure!!

Seeing as I have a facebook account of course I will pressure you into getting one. LOL. I actually joined facebook back when it was then a college only networking site, which for me at the time seemed good to keep a handle on all the friends I was making at Pepperdine.

What I love most about facebook is the plethora of sharing photos and determining the privacy settings as to who can and who can't see them. Like someone said earlier ignore all those apps that other people try to get you to add and you're mostly fine.

I don't have a myspace cuz I always thought the layout was ugly (and plus I already have a professional website now abcmezzo.com) and twitter just never appealed to me.

Now I still keep my LJ but that's primarily because at the time most of my friends who had one never had a facebook account, but honestly I like journaling every now and then because it's more private to me then on facebook. But hey, do what tickles your fancy. I merely want you to join for my own selfish reasons ^_^
