British epithets and other fun things...
May. 16th, 2004 02:36 amI've noticed that my insults have been running with British synonymns for 'male genitalia' lately XD I'm trying to stop cussing (even though I really don't cuss) but it doesn't stop me from calling people 'gits', 'prats', 'wankers', 'berks', and others that I can't remember right now. I need an "British Insults, Put-downs and Slams" book or something XD But hey, you are what you read! And I have been reading liberal doses of Harry Potter books and Lord of the Rings books, lately! As well as fanfiction...
From Boz4pm's wonderfully addicting non-MS "Don't Panic":
"“I would like to hear your side of it all, Mithrandir. Your meeting with Thorin and how difficult it was to persuade him to take Bilba and what a nincompoop the dwarves thought him.”
Gandalf, understanding the meaning asked, “‘Nincompoop’? That is a word?”
Penny nodded.
“Hmm. I think I like it. ‘Nincompoop’ – it has a nice ring to it. ‘Nin- com-POOP’. Ah! Very satisfying.”
A ball whizzed past them, landing in a nearby rosebush.
“Razanur Tûk, you ‘nincompoop’! Have more care where you are throwing things!” Gandalf boomed at him.
There was a brief silence and then, in the distance, a small voice said, sounding slightly confused, “‘Nincompoop’, Gandalf?”
“Yes, ‘nincompoop’. Describes you perfectly, Raz.”"
(Note: Razanur Tuk is actually Peregrin Took, or Pippen. Tolkien wrote that the common language in Middle Earth was a language called Westron, so Tolkien basically 'translated' Bilbo's book from Westron into English, which included name changes for the hobbits and different places, mostly pertaining to the Shire, although Rivendell (Imladris) and other elvish places would probably be known in the elvish language Sindarin or Quenya. Man, I'm a nerd! XD)
(And I HAVE to include this juicy tidbit from GW fandom)
From Mel and Christy's "Death and the Dragon: Letters From Duo" about Heero's influence over Duo's volcabulary:
"P.S. Have I ever thanked you for teaching me 'onna', 'chan' and all of those other useful Japanese words? Does 'Omae o korosu' ring a bell? It will if you run away on me."
Now why aren't I calling people with Japanese insults? Please, I was doing that at age thirteen XD
Speaking of Heero... or Heeroro (snickle), I swiped this little survey from his LJ. Now people of both genders can reply to it if they like but mostly I'm just posting this for (probably in vain) hopes for Heeroro and the other guys to reply funny answers XD
1. Who are you?
2. When and how did we meet?
3. Do you have (or have you ever had!) a crush on me?
4. Would you kiss me?
5. Describe me in one word.
6. What was your first impression?
7. Do you still think that way about me now?
8. What reminds you of me?
9. If you could give me anything, what would it be?
10. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn't?
