OMG VIDEO GAMES EBIL OHNOES
Apr. 21st, 2007 12:24 pmI'm quite annoyed with the whole hoopala with the rant of video games bieng the cause of everything terrible in this world. I mean, for goodness sake, most people realize that video games are a fantasy, like books, or movies, or tv! None of it is real! It's a world designed to entertain who ever plays it and while there are games that have violent acts in them, the games are designed for ADULTS who are MENTALLY ABLE TO SEPERATE FICTION FROM REALITY. The games don't teach how to buy a firearm, they don't give you recipes for how to make bombs, and ALL GAMES come with a WARNING LABEL to indicate WHAT AGE GROUP should be allowed to play this game.
What also pisses me off are parents who BUY GAMES FOR CHILDREN NOT IN THE PROPER AGE GROUP. Children, who aren't as capable of seperating reality from fiction, should not play games such as 'Grand Theft Auto' or anything else that has extreme amounts of blood! They're not ready yet for those kinds of games and there are plenty of appropiate, fun games that will provide hours of entertainment for them such as the Mario games or Katamari Damacy! In fact, I bet the amount of games children have access to outnumber the numbers of more mature games that are for adults. Seriously, the game industry has done their job by rating the games CLEARLY ON THE COVER and parents have no right to cite that youth violence comes from games that THEY BUY THEIR CHILDREN JUST BECAUSE THEY WANT THEM OUT OF THEIR HAIR FOR A FEW HOURS.
Video games are not BABYSITTERS, they're meant to be played for fun! It's the same thing with television! The animation industry now is under such heavy standards and practices to MAKE SURE THAT OMG WE DON'T PISS ANYONE OFF when it's not our jobs to provide education or morality in cartoons! Television, movies, video games, and music are known as the entertainment industry for a reason: TO ENTERTAIN! And that's it! Of course, there are games and animated shows like Arthur or Dora that is made soley for the purpose of educating children because it is a medium that does reach to kids, BUT that's also not the reason why this industry was made in the first place. Also, this industry wasn't made to be scapegoats for bad parenting or just plain stupidity, if the Wiley Coyote wanted to drop an anvil on the Road Runner now, that would NOT get past Standards and Practices today because OMG IT'S GOING TO PISS OFF THE PARENTS when seriously, how is a child going to have access or the strength to get an anvil and drop it on someone's head?
Get real, people. And start facing the facts instead of pointing the finger.
