COMIC CON!
Jul. 25th, 2007 08:43 amI'm safely in San Diego and hanging out with the lovely Freya whose wonderful parents once again have accepted me into their home as temp geek daughter number three. :D Yay, Comic Con! This is definitely the highlight of my year, especially since I'm now all prepared! Portfolios are done, hand outs/leave behinds are DONE, and all that's left to do is work on the drawing to give to Neil Gaiman~! I've been figuring out how to get his autograph for my Good Omens book and after much thought, I decided to apply for membership for the Comic Book Legal Defense that fights censorship for comics. It's something I'm passionate about and it's for a good cause, as well as it will work for me and provide networking opportunities to be part of something like this, and I don't mind shelling out $25 for a membership and a free autograph ticket. :D
Lots of work will be done during Comic Con, running around to do networking, establish contacts, open myself up for freelance work, etc etc etc. Lots of work, but it's fun to so it's like playing while working and meeting some new people and finding old friends. :D
There are also free screenings for Stardust and Beowulf. I'm going to try to get me hands on dem, especially Stardust. Coworker N will kill me come Monday if I see Stardust before him but MWA HA HA! Jean shall mock with gusto and glee!
No cosplay for me at Comic Con, and with all the work I'm doing there to try to launch my professional career forward, I'm thinking that it's not going to really happen at least anytime soon or ever again for that matter. Cons have changed for me in the sense it's now part of work and I have to achieve a level of professionalism. I don't really miss cosplay at all anyway, no more squishing my feet into uncomfortable character shoes, no more wigs squeezing the life out of my head, no more caked on make-up and no more having to stop for pictures when all I really want to do is run to the next panel! I'm free, I'm free!! Free from arrogant criticisms of irrelevant natures! But Freya will be wearing my Toph costume on Saturday for the Avatar panel so please tell her how awesome she looks because she WILL look awesome and it's aaaallll her. ;D
Aside from that, Preview Night is today so Freya and I are going to pick our badges, AND we're going to go see AVENUE Q!! The internet shall be FOR PORN!
