To my dear friends
Nov. 7th, 2008 03:37 pmI have seen both of your entries on my friends list and both of them make me extremely sad because of the times we live in. I know how much the both of you respect each other and how much you have in common, but to see how all of us have become divided over the issue of Prop 8 is awful. It makes me hate the government and hate the church for causing this in all of us. I know now how much my own posts must've hurt one of you and made you afraid to come to me in your time of need, I'm sorry now for hurting you.
We are all entitled to our own opinion, but in the same way, we should also be entitled to live the life we deserve. A government should be able to give all of us that ability, especially in America of all places because of what America stands for: freedom, justice, liberty and rights for all. That's where the Constitution and the Bill of Rights declares that gay and lesbian citizens should be allowed to marry. And with a government like America, I do believe decisions based on religions need to take a step back.
Nowhere on earth is there a great big melting pot/salad bowl/insert mixed food metaphor here kind of country like the United States of America, where people are encouraged to come to be able to have the opportunity to gain freedom and prosperity like no other country. This is why my own family came here, for opportunity. Who am I to deny that same opportunity offered to my family to others? Because we're all here for the same reasons, but we come from all sorts of different backgrounds to live different lives, the government needs to provide the place for all of us to be able to be the people we are.
"...and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
