bluejeans07: (Batman and Sons- Bats and Terry)
Totally stealing this from [livejournal.com profile] katherynne. I've been having a tough few days, yesterday was especially brutal, but I want to have more positive thoughts today and just let go.

What Batman Taught Me About Being a Good Dad
This article brought a smile to my face when I read it this morning. I work in animation because I love entertaining stories and characters, I love the creativity that goes into creating a show, and I love doing the work for it. But I forget so many times about how animation can impact someone, in this case a father and his son, and bring them closer together.

Sherlock Holmes BBC Radio Plays
I've been slowly making my way through my library's collection of the Sherlock Holmes radio plays staring Clive Merrison and Michael Williams and I'm enjoying myself thoroughly. I love them! The two actors have become my definitive Holmes and Watson, the writing and acting is well done, and it's been getting me through long days of working on piles and piles of stuff. They've even made me laugh a few times! There was a moment in 'The Lion's Mane' where Watson was trying to solve a mystery that Holmes already solved and got exasperated when Holmes hadn't been giving him all the clues quick enough! Watson let out the most whiniest, most frustrated cry of "H~O~O~O~O~OLMES!" and I couldn't hold it in, I burst out laughing and rewound it several times to hear it again. I think this might need to become a ringtone!

My Storyboarding Class
I'm taking an intense storyboarding class taught by Jay Oliva and I love it. I'm really happy to be in a classroom setting again, I love learning and being inspired by other people, and I LOVE that my teacher has worked on all the geeky DC shows that I love, he uses his own boards in his lectures so I watch and learn about scenes on shows that I've obsessed over. If I didn't quite understand a point in his lecture, at least I can recognize the scene he's showing us, check my DVDs and watch that part over and over again until I get it! I'm excited about doing the homework for his class too, it's a lot of work but I feel really good about doing it, I know I'm getting a lot out of it.

My Personal Project
I've been writing and drawing a 10 page comic to submit to a contest for the past few months. I'm feel like I'm in a pretty good place, I finished cleaning up all the pages yesterday and I'm ready to move on to color. Even if I don't win the contest, I'm feeling good about the work I've done for the comic and how I've pushed myself. It's not the most creative, experimental thing I've ever done, but it's a fun, witty little comic and I'm enjoying myself.

And Project Runway is on tonight! Oh Project Runway.

Apparently, there was a story on ABC news on kids drawings of God. There are the usual, man on a throne, big white beard, long white, hair, drawings of Jesus, Buddha, and oh yeah, Goku from Dragon Ball Z!

I'm so extremely amused that 1. a kid might believe that the face of God is Goku, but mostly it's the fact that 2. no one in the news noticed!! Actually, it's probably all 2. It's not really a bad thing to have a character like Goku as a role model, if the goal is to raise a kid to have an identity that wants to fight for justice, then why not? He's got a good heart, a solid group of friends and family, a strong sense of right and wrong, and he's used his strength to save the universe. Yeah the series is cheesy and full of yelling, and Goku's pretty much as dumb as a very sweet brick, but I can't help feel that this kid's on the right path to becoming an interesting adult with probably a very good sense of humor.

Anyway, you go kid! I would totally fist bump you and draw you a picture of Goku if I knew who you were. To any one who wants to see it, you can find the link here: http://abcnews.go.com/WN/book-religion-examines-ways-americans-perceive-god/story?id=11825319
