The Ugly Side of Beauty Products
Jun. 27th, 2011 09:30 pmLately I've been buying a few anti-aging products. Yeah, yeah it's hilarious but I just saw my 47 year old aunt have cosmetic surgery because her eyelids are sagging and I'm not too thrilled about that being in my future. But I did this without doing any real research and after meandering through the internet, I've found that holy crap, too much crap that I own comes from the result of animal testing. So once these products run out, I'll be buying from other companies that don't test on animals and hopefully will be greener as well. This list is mostly for my reference but I know there are a few make up enthusiasts/animal lovers on my friends list as well. I found all my info via PETA's cosmetic company database.
Companies that Test on Animals (that I own products from)
L'Oreal
Maybelline (owned by L'Oreal)
Cover Girl
Neutrogena (Johnson and Johnson)
Shiseido
Shu Uemura (owned by L'Oreal)
Pantene (Procter & Gamble)
Companies that Don't Test on Animals (that I own products from)
NYX (this makes me SO happy because this is my favorite cheap make up brand!)
St. Ives
Smashbox cosmetics
MAC cosmetics
Bath and Body Works
Revlon
LUSH
Trader Joes (I like their lotions)
Overall, it's most likely that cheap drug store/grocery store chain make up is tested on animals save for a few brands. I'm glad to see that some of the companies I already buy from are animal testing free so I'll just be buying more of range of products from them instead of from others, like going for Revlon and NYX instead of Cover Girl and Maybelline. And probably go to Trader Joes more often for beauty stuff as well as food XD
