Happy Mother's Day!
I told Mom that I'd cook lunch today for a Mother's Day treat if Dad takes us out to dinner tonight. XD I ended up missing our family's Mother's Day celebration because it my family decided to get together last night when I already had plans that day to go to the Renaissance Faire. Oh well, I had fun and ate a lot of delicious faire food, but because I ate so unhealthily (giant pickle, cheesecake dipped in chocolate on a stick, traditional English banger in a french roll with grilled onions, fruit ice, home made cream puff drizzled in chocolate... I love the faire!!) yesterday, I wanted to cook something really healthy!
Today's menu is:
Sesame tuna
Korean style tomato salad
Cabbage and bacon abitashi
The sesame tuna is from this recipe which I got from what was formally Open Source Food (it's one of yongfook's recipes), but the tomato salad and abitashi are from 'Kinou Nani Tabeta?' by Fumi Yoshinaga that can be downloaded from

Side note: I love Fumi Yoshinaga's manga, her stories are so strong and real with a lot of heart and amazing character journeys (and the boysex is hot too). But she clearly also loves food! Her 'Antique Bakery' manga is fantastic and I learned a little bit about French pastries too, but scattered through her manga (Antique Bakery, Flower of Life, etc) are some really delicious sounding recipes! With 'Kinou,' she really gets to show her love for cooking by writing about a great gay couple (a hairdresser and a lawyer) and how the food they eat and prepare brings them together. <3
Korean Style Tomato Salad
Onion leaks
Garlic
Onion
Tomatoes
Chicken essence
Sugar
Vinegar
Sesame seed oil
Salt
Pepper
Finely chop onion leaks and garlic with onion, the cut edges blanched a little with hot water. Add chicken essence, sugar, vinegar, sesame seed oil, and salt and pepper for the dressing. Then add tomatoes. (I think I'll add cucumbers as well.)
Bacon and Cabbage Abitashi
Bacon
Cabbage
Water
Sake
Mirin
Mince the cabbage and about 2 sheets of bacon (thin the bacon a little so that the salty flavor comes out), then place in a flat pot with a lid. Add a little water, some sake and mirin and allow it to cook, stirring occasionally. Lastly, sprinkle some salt and black pepper.
