Well, actually, it would be more appropriate for Amundsen to have the crossover, because he used dogs a lot more – Scott's company used them for short trips where speed was a necessity, but for long-distance long-term hauling they used ponies or themselves. There are any number of reasons for this but chief among them is that Scott was a big softie and couldn't bear to kill some dogs to feed the other dogs as one had to do on a long trip.
Which makes the Amundsen's Sled Dogs movie delightfully dark, doncha think? }:]
