Here is Pinkwood
Feb. 14th, 2005 01:17 amRey bought me the "Here is Greenwood" DVD for JeanxRey Less than Three Day and I was so happy he got it for me that I immediatly put it in and watched it.
O. M. G. >=O!!!!!
Anger.
First of all, IT WAS RE-DUBBED WITH A LAMER SCRIPT. Is Central Park Media still around?? CPM was the original company that dubbed HiG and their script was hilarious and their choice for actors was superb. The company that redubbed HiG was Media Works and they did a very very lame thing and made the DVD into TWO DVDS. WTF? The series is only SIX EPISODES LONG, THIS CAN FIT ONTO ONE DVD EVEN WITH THE ENGLISH DUB AND BONUS SELECTION!! Lame. Very very lame.
The dub acting was... acceptable in my opinion. Not too bad, but in the end, the actors for CPM seemed to act more naturally. Shinobu and Shun weren't gay enough in my opinion which was PART of the reason that made them so awesome. Media Works Shinobu also lacked the mystery and the stoic amusement that CPM Shinobu had as well. Major sadness. And MW Hasakawa wasn't enough of a spaz. MW Mitsuru seemed to just fade into the background because the acting was very monotone. There is this hilarious preview for an episode that Mitsuru has to narrate and he's supposed to go off the wall and over-dramatic, but MW Mitsuru in the end couldn't pull through. He did scream really well though so I was rolling in my seat with laughter at his funny scream, but that's pretty much it.
The script also left much to be desired. In their effort to be completely loyal to the exact Japanese translation there was a lack of humor as well as interesting sentance structure. The actors didn't seem to come up with anything funny to say either.
Comparision:
CPM Reina: "I'm going through puberty so you better watch out because if I'll end up growing up to be a gangster!"
MW Reina: "I'm going through puberty right now and I'll end up being bad because of you!"
CPM Mitsuru: "It began... it began on the day when I met... THAT CAT!"
MW Mitsuru: "The story began when a certain cat and I became aquainted." (or something like that, he rambles on a little more)
There is more but I'm blanking. Rey does have the original CPM version on tape somewhere so if anyone wants to check it out, we can make a day of this XD The CPM version did cut out a few scenes but none of them were very important or very long.
I ended up watching the series in Japanese with subs, the script is the same of course but it's less painful to read it. I liked Misako a lot more in the Japanese version mostly because I found her voice so ANNOYING in BOTH American versions. Misako's actually a pretty cute girl so I was happy that they chose a really cute voice for her. I liked the Japanese version a lot (strong actors, lots of emotion, good voices,) but I think I like the CPM dub a little more, probably because it's easier to laugh at the anime if it's in a language that I understand completely.
Hahaha, side note, there is a Greenwood street in Pasadena that Lyn and I were checking out when we decided to move in together XD We both had watched the anime so if we had found a place to live on that street, we were going to make a sign that says "Here is Greenwood" and maybe cosplay as the characters XD Shinobu is definately my favorite character in the series but I probably would've ended up being Hasakawa because I'm so short XD I happen to think that Lyn would make a great Shun XD
Yes Cody, I WILL watch Hellsing so you can have your DVDs back! *hides from Taliesin*
