Legs hurt desu
May. 15th, 2005 05:33 pmYesterday, I drove down to Culver because Mandy guilt-tripped me into coming for a 24 hour cancer benefits walk. I got there around four and wandered around looking for her, when I found Brendan-ma-nenden!! Oh gawd, I hadn't seen him since graduation! He was very nice and kept me company as we searched for Mandy and found her soon after. During the search, Brendan told me that he had become a huge anime geek, especially in terms of Full Metal Alchemist. DOOD WHERE HAS EVERYONE BEEN?!?! Seriously. =P I've been into this such for YEARS and like WTF?!?!! XD
Mandy and I walked around and around and around the high school track for a great number of hours talking about our own respective fics. A lot of it ended up being about tehpuppyangst, 1xR, and tehthreesomeofDOOM! We walked past this one tent area a few times that had "THE HARRY POTTER CLUB." We finally stopped and asked about it, found out about the House system, the Sorting, and how they play Quidditch. No one talked about fanfiction or about the world in general. Was disappointed.
Lots of walking, lots of talking, etc. Brendan-ma-nenden asked me to make him a Hughes costume ;D We shall see~ *cackles and rubs hands together* Mandy told me I should cosplay as Ed and she would be Al and we would draft Anne to be Rinrei~ Mwa ha ha! Met up with Sandy and Valerie later too, much fun!
Mandy and I left at one point and had food and cake at my house, plus we watched DN-Angel 5. When we got back, it was time for the Iluminati. The track had been surrouded by white paper bags with the names of cancer survivors and people who died from cancer, each bag had been filled with sand and candle was in them which were lit. There was also bags on the bleachers that spelled HOPE. The HS track is a combination of a track and a football field so there were huge floodlights that surrounded the area. So when the guy started making the long, cheesy speeches, he said, "As the candles are lit, they guide are walkers on the path of hope."
Of course, being fairly sarcastic people, Mandy and I replied, "Actually, it's the light of the floodlights that are guiding us on this rubbery high school track." Brendan-ma-nenden looked at us and said, "You guys aren't taking this seriously at all, are you?" Nope. Of course not.
Since Mandy's a survivor, she was given a candle and was forced to walk with the other survivors around the track once. Apparently, it was very boring so she started talking to a lady next to her about how they should be happy they survived and the music and the cheesiness was just making everything sad. I joked that they should've had the survivors in a congo line and everyone had to join in holding glowsticks! That's much happier!
It was fun going back to my old high school and walking around the track. Really, I was a good girl and raised money by walking very many miles around the track, but in truth, I was just there to hang out with Mandy and talk about fics. I probably should've taken it more seriously, but my feet are still hurting right now and so are my legs. ^^;;
