The canvas stuff, yeah. If you strap down with cloth strips, you get shiftage, and then BOOM. Boobsplosion! Duct tape sticks to the t-shirt, so it holds in place. Plus it sticks to itself, so after a couple of layers, you're held in and in place.

If you have someone else helping you with it, you don't get any bubbles in the tape either, so it's a smooth flat line. It's basically a disposable corset, and a hella lot cheaper and less time consuming than making an actual flattening corset.

No, I wouldn't do it to the tanktop - it's hard to find tanks of the right color! (remember the gold lamme?) I was just wondering whether cuting of the shirt would be necessary, that's all.

What cup size are you? Depending on that, there are different ways to go. I am a B so I usually can get away with just a sportsbra. If I need to be really flat, I'll take an ace bandage and wrap it around my chest over the sportbra.

If you're bigger, you can use a backbrace. Judy does that. They're these white elastic bandages by Ace that are meant for back support but u just shift it up over your chest and it works great.

If you need to show skin and still bind, that's a whole 'nother game that incolves sportstape. I don't remember very many characters from Naruto needing that tho. =)

I'm a C and I wear sportbras all the time but it doesn't really smush the cleavage enough! I'll definately look into the backbrace though =D Luckily, Sasuke has a big collar thingie so I won't need the sportstape~

The white bandages have really strong velcro to hold them down, so what you do is get 2 people to help u into it, one on each end to pull it as tight as they can. Hullo no more breathing. =D

You can ask Judy about it if you want the name of the actual product but I remember seeing it at Walgreens and similar stores.

Hmm... I've tried using an ace bandage for this and it never works :( and I'm... I have no idea what cup size I am - I only wear a bra when a shirt requires it (because of see-throughness).

Would love advice - I usually end up crossplaying and I always try to be as *cough* authentic as possible.

I find that the sticky type ace bandage that adhere's to itself is the best to use cause it doesn't slip as much. If you can get away with not wearing a bra all the time (which uh... I do sometimes too =D ), then I'd say a tight sportsbra, or 2 sportbras layered, would probably work for you.

If the outfit isn't skin tight, there's really no need to kill yourself flattening. It's really uncomfortable to not be able to breathe for hours on end.

I use the self-stick kind of bandage, but it's only about 2 inches wide, so that might be part of the problem. You say a tight sportsbra will work? Makes sense, but damn, now I must purchase a new bra ::dreads::

It's not so much skin tight, but the tank I were for Heero Yuy is pretty clingy (it's perfect for the costume but is actually an undershirt - amazing what your parents will find when you say you need a dark green tank ^^;), so I try to bind when I can (which never works...). As for the torture of not being able to breath comfortably for hours on end - well, in my mind it's torture everytime I wear a bra, so I really don't care. Binding is only slightly worse, from the few times I've tried it :D

Well, I suppose you could try tape binding? I dread doing this one but it really works. You take soft (very important! it has to be soft or it will cut into your skin) tape, like sports tape, and you run a piece of tape vertical over both your breasts. Then you take the tape and stick one end to the tape on one side and run it around your back to the other side, pulling it tight. Basically, you're pulling your breasts to either side and flattening that way and the effect is that you can wear guy outfits that open up past your chest. You have to be really careful taking the tape off though as it will tear your skin and can leave scars. o_O

That's about it for my knowledge on binding. ^^; I think there is still a thread on cosplay.com about binding, there might be some other ideas there you can try.

The tank I have actually isn't very low cut, so that's not a problem. Hm... but the straps of a sportsbra might show... I don't know, I'd have to check. Tape binding sounds like more work that it's worth, to say nothing of confusing O.O; But it also sounds like it would have been perfect for when I did Miboshi at AX04 - I might have flashed fewer people my chest if I'd done that... le sigh

NO. That was $200, you're not spiking it! Anyway, a) it isn't human hair (then it would have been more like $1000+), b) it's much too long to try doing that.

Plus, I know how that wig is put together - it'll look fine on the top if you spike it, but it won't work for the back and sides, it'll just show my actually hair.
