bluejeans07What was supposedly an innocent trip to karaoke turned into a full-fledged little mission. I, Jean Yuy with my accomplices Rachael Maxwell, Lynleigh Chang, and Kie Rababa Winner set out to Santa Monica to have a little fun at Peppermint. Fun. Okay. Ninmu ryoukai. What we didn't know that the 'fun' was going to go past that little innocent rendevouz.
We began at a boba place next to Peppermint. The four of us were surveying the general area when I spotted a head of long black tresses that reminded me of a friend from my childhood. As it turned out, it was indeed my friend from childhood. With her was her boyfriend who constantly seemed to have the hiccups. We chatted, exchanged little ditties of polite speech and parted, making promises to hang out again. Must add that to reminder.
We enter Peppermint and get the smallest room. EEE! Cutenes!! ...ahem... And we sing a few songs. The English songs do not work. Change of plans, only stick to Japanese songs. There are no Korean ones. Damn. After our hour was finished, Chang goes to the bathroom for some private business and the rest of us lounged around the lobby waiting for her. One of the girls behind the counter proceeds to ask us how we were able to sing Japanese songs. Red alert, red alert! So we explain to her about our cosplay hobbies and love for J=pop/J-rock and the other workers appear impressed and amused. So impressed and amused that they bestow on us a precious treasure... a $10 off pass off of next karaoke event! Good.
Mental note: tell people you are freaks, you get immense amounts of benefits in the right places at the right times.
As it turns out, we were near the Headquarters of the Parental Units. Planning a sneak attack, we head down there. On the way, we pass the Headquarters of the Strange Day-Glo Japanese Anime director. Maxwell and Chang have a good snicker over this, although Winner and I remained clueless until later in the evening. When we arrive at HPU, they greet us with food, warmth and TV. While plotting, we manage to catch the middle of a taping of Joe Millionare (that my bro borrowed from his friend) as well as a bit of Duck Tales to finish off the evening. We leave around one with HPU not aware that we had successfully finished off a portion of their dumpling supplies. Ninmu kairyou.
As it turned out, the professors sent Maxwell and Chang on a new, improv mission to HSDGJAD and since Winner and I are there, we offer our support as back-up. We stand outside Miss Muffet's window and try to find out if the base had been moved. After a bit of snooping and a lot of window peeping, Maxwell and Chang determine that there is too much furniture there for it to be HSDGJAD. The Dr. Pepper was also a dead give away. Mental note: discover the new location of headquarters and plan secret ambush without Winner, since Winner and twin are at risk for potential flirting and obessive crush.
After dropping Maxwell off at her place, the three of us head back to where Chang and I are currently stationed. There, Winner bids farewell to us to rejoin her twin and go to the virtues of sleep, a virtue which I shall now explore.
