WHAT IS THIS?!

Angst, boykissing, total heart-wrenching dance and kiss goodbye, plus glowy blue light of time traveling science fiction-ness?

SOMEBODY SCHOOL ME. SCHOOL ME IN THE WAYS OF THE WHO.

Do you mean tell you what's going on, or get you access to the episodes (as this one hasn't aired yet)? Because I can do both.

Is that seasons 1-3 of new Doctor Who featuring Doctor's 9 & 10? The Christmas Specials? The animated special?

Torchwood Season 1, and of course the new Sarah Jane series (both th epilot and the first few episodes are airing now in the UK)?

If not, if you have a high-speed internet connection there be torrents. :)

I have everything (except this week's Sarah Jane, which I haven't gotten around to torrenting yet), and I make DVDs of everything to share among friends....and to initiate newbies.

I purchase the official DVDs once they come out in the US to keep the karmic balance, though.

That's only in Torchwood. In fact Torchwood (which in my opinion is the crap series in the Who universe) has at least all of the characters kissing or shagging the opposite gender, the same gender, and aliens in between.

Captain Jack, who is the main I like any attractive male/female leader character in Torchwood, began life as a character in Who. But Who tends to be a bit tamer, since it's geared to a younger demographic (i.e. older kids) in the U.K. Torchwood on th eother hand is geared to adults.

Who are the boys? Why are they kissing? Does this happen often in both series? How are the angst levels? How sexy are the accents? What's up with the glowy blue light? Will there be aliens? And who is this Captain Jack Hawtness that I keep hearing about? And does Barty Crouch Jr. appear in Torchwood as well as Who or is it going to be a new guy?

BREATHE.

In... Out... (scratch that, that's sexual :P)

Seriously, the brief run down.

Dr. Who - is a Timelord with the ability to fly through Space & Time, all of the people from his homeworld Galafrey are all Time Lords. The Doctor was a bit of a renegade, and was exiled from his home world. So he travels, picking up Companions (what they call his sidekicks :P) and going on adventures. The Companions are usually just the adventurous, and there's not any sexual tension between them and the Doctor. There have been a few rare exceptions, such as the Companions, Romana, Sarah Jane, & Rose (& Martha on her side) most notably. Generally speaking he stumbles upon some great wrong and tries to help.

Dr Who has been a part of UK TV since the 50's. When the first actor (who was quite long in the tooth) wished to depart the series, the writers came up with a clever way to explain the change in actors... that Timelords are capable of regeneration, and have multiple lives. There have been as of 2007, 10 Doctors (Doctors 1-8 in the original continuous series of which there are over 200 episodes) and the new Doctor featuring Doctor 9 and Doctor 10. Outside of the rare occurence that hinted at homosexuality in minor, only appearing for that story characters, things didn't really carry heavy-handed sexual overtones (in my opinion) until the new Doctor Who series.

Before the events of this New Dr. Who series there was a vast intergalactic war, which as far as the Doctor knew, left him the sole survivor of his people. So this Doctor (Doctor 9 portrayed by Chris Eccleston (currently on Heroes) is very dark, and very angsty, and a touch manic. During the new series we meet Capt. Jack. He's a I'll chase anyone, anytime, anywhere equal opportunity lust bucket. He' a tech-savvy space-faring guy. Equally with many of the same gizmos as the Doctor. But during an episode he is killed, and the Doctor's current Companion of the time Rose, was able to sync with the Doctor's ship (the TARDIS which has this weird Gundam-esque ability at sorta kinda being alive/aware at times) and brought him back. Problem is, she REALLY brought him back, and he's now stuck out of time, unable to die. (Please note he only has select appearances in the series, he's a recurring character, but NOT part of the normal cast).

Living for decades, he eventually becomes a member, and leader of Torchwood. During Season 2 of the new Doctor, they had a recurring plot of Torchwood, i.e. because of an encounter the Doctor had with Queen Victoria in historical England, she created the organization of Torchwood to guard England against alien threats. This is where the Torchwood series comes in, set in the present day.

Now Torchwood is a sleaze fest :P Women kissing women, men snogging men, heterosexual boom-chic-abow-wow, and some cross species mating too. Capt Jack is a hussy, he'll sleep with just about anything that moves, and is always flirting ^_~ The episodes are fairly stand alone in Torchwood. And even though characters were fucking last episode, the relationship can be over the next. In the clip above, Capt. Jack has been transported back in time to a WW2 send off. He's smooching a gay about to leave for the front lines soldier, and decides, hey I need to snog!

And that's about that.

Doctor 10 = Barty Crouch, he begins his reign as the Doctor for Season 2-3 (aired) and season 4 (which broadcasts 2008). We see both him, and the other doctor interact with Captain Jack. There's banter between the doctors and Captain Jack, but not hotness.

James Marsters, aka Spike from Buffy, will appear in an episode in Torchwood 2, and supposedly expect some hotness with Capt. Jack.

The blue light = they're going in and out of time. And the light is used to show that there's a window of opportunity to get back to his own time.

Doctor Who Season 1 with Eccleston, angsty.

Late seasons not so angsty... just expect drama

Torchwood, dark and angsty.

That site is GOD. You can watch ALL of Doctor Who (even the oldies) and Torchwood on that site. Stage6's videos are the highest quality.

YOU WILL BE OBSESSED.

Make sure you watch series 1 and 2 of Doctor Who before you watch Torchwood. You can watch Torchwood (season 1) and series 3 simultaneously.

WATCH IT.
