Basic White Sauce
Nov. 18th, 2007 10:03 amOn Wednesday, I went out to lunch to this great pasta place that I had no idea that existed. I ordered this extremely tasty pasta composed of sun dried tomatoes, peas, Italian sausage, some mushrooms, and garlic, soooo tasty! I'm going to try to recreate it today.
Alix gave me a basic white sauce recipe:
Title: Basic White Sauce W/variations
Categories: Sauces
Yield: 4 servings
2 tb Butter
2 tb Flour
1 c Milk
Salt & pepper to taste

Crocker's Cookbook BASIC WHITE SAUCE
Blend milk and flour. Add butter [melted]. Mix together. Heat on medium in
'nuker about one minute. Stir. Repeat till reaches desired thickness.
Variations:
Cheese - add 1/2 c. cheese and either 1/4 tsp. dry mustard or 1/4 tsp.
spice sauce such as teriyaki or Worcestershire, etc. .
Red - add 3 Tbls. ketsup.
Curry - 1/2 tsp. curry powder.
Cucumber - add 1/2 c. grated or diced 'cukes and pinch of cayenne.
Sea Food - add 1/2 c. cooked. coctail shrimp or chopped other sea food.

What I do is, anytime I feel like having something special for dinner, I usually go online and try out the recipes. If I like it, I usually write it into my recipe book. If not, I usually throw the print out in the paper shredder. I'll give this recipe a try one of these days. :)
