Steamy Crafts
Nov. 19th, 2007 08:28 amAt some point I need to write about the Murakami exhibit, but it is not this entry! Maybe I'll write it in my art journal...
Last night, I was looking through craftster and thinking how nice it would be to make a new hoodie for myself lined in fleece! It'd be nice and warm for one thing and it's starting to get colder in California, not FREEZINGOMG but still, it's cold. Not to mention that the building I work in usually cranks up the AC.
So I start doodling, I have a cute idea for a bunny-eared hoodie with a yoke, gathered front, invisible pockets and a bunny butt applique that matches my bento... bright blue jersey line it white fleece, yay and CUTE, right? Not too hard as well.
And then I go, "I likes steampunk a lot right now. I wonder what a steampunk hoodie would look like?"
Hoo boy.
Out comes a sketch where there are princess seams in the front, long puffed sleeves with fake buttoned cuffs, invisible pockets, screen printed pocket watch on the front and gears on the back, AND a striped yoke and hood, all lined with black fleece. The fabric I have is NOT striped. I'm going to have to sew the stripes on individually using bias tape. And oh man... I have to match the stripes up in the three pieces of the yoke AND the hood...
I want this hoodie though. If I start on it now, I'll probably finish it... oh... July 2008. When all else fails, I can blame Sam, it's HIS FAULT I'm all obsessed with steampunk now! :P
