Okay ladies and perhaps a few gentlemen, I need this to be answered for me: layering.
Not for cakes, or for flash or photoshop, but for fashion.
I understand certain parts of layering, I can layer stuff on top of tank top, etc, but how do you layer a long sleeved shirt under a short sleeved one? How do you layer a dress over a long sleeved shirt and a tank top? What kind of jacket should you wear over both? I keep experimenting with it, I have two plain long sleeved shirts that I keep thinking should be made more interesting with layers, but the collars are a bit of a problem. The navy blue one has a collar that goes right up to the neck and it looks kind of strange with t-shirts. The other one is tan and has a collar on it. One of the things I kind of liked was the navy shirt with jeans, and a loooong loose tank top that had penguins printed all over it... but I couldn't decide if it looked weird or not.
Currently, I'm wearing the navy shirt and a short sleeved hoodie over it with birds printed on it, and jeans. I'm going to wear a jacket over it because it's raining but I'm kind of not counting the jacket. I do love the look of wearing a dress over a long sleeved shirt and jeans... but I don't know if I can pull it off. :X
However... if one of the executives at the company I work for can come in wearing a watermelon pink button down shirt over a mint green tee, what the hell am I worried about? XD

No, in all seriousness, I know nothing about fashion. I definitely decide what to wear on a certain day by reaching into my drawer and grasping about until my hand closes on something that feels like a t-shirt.
And what's wrong with watermelon over mint green? I think that sounds pretty clever...

Date: 2007-12-01 06:27 pm (UTC)And spaghetti strap dresses over tshirts! O_o; I put the same dress on now and go... man... it looks stupid, how did I ever get away with wearing this??
I hate the current miniskirt over capri tights look... it's just an excuse to wear a skirt that's too short... or people wanting to wear stretch pants but aren't brave enough. And while I love long shirts, I think dresses over pants are too much (especially over jeans, jeans are so bulky... it just reminds me of the fobs we used to make fun of in high school....) I think I'm going to hide at home and wait to see what next year's fashions are like.... haha.

Date: 2007-12-01 08:12 pm (UTC)XD EXACTLY. Really, layering isn't as complicated as all of that, I don't think. So long as your colors go alright (or clash expertly, I suppose) you're good to go. And I'm sure you look adorable in shirt, pants, and dress over the top look.
If it goes wrong, just tell people you're trying to pass for Muggle. It solves all XD
