Myths and Realities

I think this is an important video to watch about the government plan for health care. This is directly from the White House, it's not viral e-mail, it's not word of mouth, it's directly from the source.
More videos and information are available here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck/
And now I'm going to get on my soap box for a bit.
I will be laid off from my job soon and I will be losing my health insurance, which I'm not happy about it. I was without insurance for awhile and to lose it again is upsetting, not because that there's anything horribly wrong with me, but because there CAN be and I don't want to be caught without insurance to cover that. Right now, with the way the economy is, the competition for jobs in the animation industry is super tough. Recession is limiting the amount of jobs, pay, and benefits that can be offered, and people who work in animation always had to compete with seasoned veterans. I know that even though I try my hardest to send out my portfolios and my resumes to studios all over Los Angeles, it will be tough for me to get a job, and because of that, I won't have health insurance.
I want there to be an option for me to have and the best option would be that there is a government health insurance OPTION that will cover me. I value my health very much because if you don't have your health, what have you got, eh? So please, I ask that everyone checks out the information on the site, and also to think of me, and anyone else who will not or currently does not have health insurance. After all there are roughly 47 million of us out there, chances are, you know some of us, are friends with us, or are related us. Would you really be willing to stand in the way of your friend/loved one getting affordable health care?

Date: 2009-08-14 01:54 pm (UTC)The bill does present a government option. It favors the government option. The bill is structured to steer people to a government option and eventually force people to the government option. As Obama stated in 2003 and 2007, he favors a single payer (government run) health system.

In 2003, 2007, yes, he did want universal health care for the US people. However, I don't think that's entirely realistic or possible for this country. Clearly, a lot of people don't want that and universal health care has its own problems.
But I don't see a problem with offering the option of government health insurance that someone can choose to have or they can have private insurance.

Date: 2009-08-14 04:35 pm (UTC)Obama, 2009, AARP: "If you like your plan, if you like your doctor, then you can keep your plan." That is unless you change jobs or your employer decided it makes more financial sense for them to dump their health coverage and put all their employees on the government-run system. Obama made it clear he had not read the plan when he made this statement.

Date: 2009-08-14 05:55 pm (UTC)As for your personal situation, please look into temporary health insurance. I had temporary health insurance through Blue Cross for about 4-5 months when I was in-between jobs after law school. It was very affordable. Good luck on your job search!

Date: 2009-08-15 01:11 am (UTC)That's fine to check sources to see what people who are considered experts in this field say, but I think it's wrong to judge the government this way and immediately write off this website as a way to lie to the people. The woman in the video I posted is a physician, the people in other videos have direct contact with the bill at hand. Just to write this entire thing off as a lie is narrowing your point of view.
If we believe that everyone in authority is lying to us, then what kind of world is this? Have your own opinions on this view but to call all of this a lie is wrong.

Date: 2009-08-15 01:23 am (UTC)Honesty is a really important thing to me, probably because I was a perpetual liar in my teens to the point I lied to everyone: my friends, teachers, and parents. After one of my lies really hurt me and my family, I've really come to value honesty so much that I'm really honest to the point of bluntness. I know everyone and everything can lie, but I really try to focus on the fact that they can just as well tell the truth. More of the 'glass is half full' instead of 'half empty' sort of thing. So yeah, it hit a bit close, but it wasn't directed at you. And I'm really sorry. *hug*
