I'm planning on buying a bunch of audiobooks to listen to on my iPod while I exercise. Also, I've decided to really try not to use my car and walk to where I need to go, recommended by the new svelte and slim Stephen Fry who used this method to lose a ton of weight. Anyway, I think it's a great idea and I'm going to start, but I want some book recommendations. :D

So guys, what books do you guys think I should read/listen to? List them in the comments and then I'll compile them in a master list. Thanks!! :D

The Series of Unfortunate Events, read by Tim Curry! Possibly the only books I've read that are better in audiobook form. I can lend you the first in the series if you're interested; the rest should be fairly available at the library.

Walking the 40-minute trip from the bus stop to where I was staying down here in the summer of 2007 was an excellent weight loss plan (by which I mean 'the only thing that ever worked for me'), albeit born of necessity at the time ... good luck with that, in this city where nothing is within walking distance – either it'll be a smashing success because you'll get a LOT of exercise, or it'll be too impractical to sustain for very long. I suppose listening to an audiobook while doing so will make the trip less long...

Oh, and if you're in the mood for something completely ridiculous, see if you can find Clive Cussler's Atlantis Found – I checked it out on a whim from the library after I'd run out of interesting audiobooks there and before I found Radio 4. It has, and I kid you not:
- obsidian skulls
- Nazi clones
- secret Antarctic bases
- loving detailed descriptions of every car and gun that appears in the story
- a plot to end the world
- ridiculously overblown prose
And much, much more! It's like everything people mock Dan Brown for, x100. Hi-larious.

Ackshully, you know what, we're overdue for our Doctor Who Season 3 Orgy so if we fix a time for that I will lend/burn you every scrap of spoken word entertainment in my possession.

Heh heh heh.

I concur with the thought that The Series of Unfortunate Events is better in audiobook form.

Anything by Full Cast Audio. It's the audiobook company run by Bruce Coville, and it's wonderful, because when they say full cast, they mean full cast. Every character gets a different voice, there's music-they're more like radio dramas than straight audio books.

I'm an audiobook whore. Shayna gave me her password for the Sac library. They have a digital library from which you can download all the audiobooks you want. For free. It's under the honor system that you will delete them when they're "due" back to the library. <3

So. My suggestions are as follows:
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES. No. Really. One of *the* best audiobooks I've ever heard.

ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY. It's not my favorite David Sedaris book, but the audio is fuckin' hilarious. I would also recommend his newest one WHEN YOU ARE ENGULFED IN FLAMES because he goes to Japan and mentions engrish. A lot. And it's heeelarious.

NEVERWHERE. It's a really really good book (I'm sure you've read it), but the audio version is even better. It's worth the re-"read".

WORLD WAR Z. Although it's abridged!! And that's a no no. However, if you're not paying money for it, I say go for it. Historical account of the zombie wars? Oh, sure, yes please.

A DIRTY JOB. by Christopher Moore (true love.) I think this might be my favorite Christopher Moore book. It's so goddamn funny. The kind of book where I think about it years later and still lol. And the narrator is so effeminate and well... perfect for the character. I think you will enjoy this greatly.

Of course there's always the Harry Potter series. I'm sure you've done that before. The Mighty Boosh one is really awesome (I'm biased) and kind of Python-esque. Anyway, I have TONS of recommendations. But these are a few.
