So I started making this vest to try out my new sewing machine and use up fabric in my fabric bin, it's red jersey lined with black faux fur with fabric appliques and a kangaroo pocket...

It's kind of looking a little old to me now though. :/ What do you guys think??
Also, Paff got me to watch Legion of Super Heroes! I'm on the episode where Brainiac just loses it and I can't stop laughing! XD Also, I have secretly begun shipping Superman/Brainiac. Forgive me Batman but you weren't there to keep Superman company in the 31st century!

Date: 2009-10-25 07:34 pm (UTC)I think it's all in how you wear it. It looks really amazingly well-made, and I mean that with utmost sincerity, like really commercial quality stuff. Lately I've noticed, thanks to Ikea and Urban Outfitters mostly, that things which remind me of my grandma's house are very very in, so 'looking old' might work in its favour. If you pair it with something young and hip it wouldn't look 'old,' I think, it would look like you have the guts to stand out a little. Which isn't always a bad thing. :)
BTW, what kind of sewing machine did you get? How do you like it?

Date: 2009-10-25 08:04 pm (UTC)You've brought up a good point, I tend to love vintage inspired prints and stuff anyway which is why I bought that flower fabric (I used it to try to make a failed laptop sleeve and the remnants became the pockets and the appliques), and dressing it young would probably make it work.
The sewing machine I got is a Brother XR-9000. :D I got it on sale at Costco and it works great! Lots of stitch variety, comes with a variety of needles, accessories for quilting and stuff like that. Alix has a brother sewing machine that I ended up really liking when I was sewing over at her place, and it's easy to understand how to use and to take care of, which is the advantage over more industrial sewing machines. :D
