I'll do a product review first and then we can talk about the dilemma. XD

By now I've pretty much settled into what products I use and what I look to avoid. That said, there are the few occasions when I'm like, "Crap, I need this" or something; mostly products I'd like to use while I travel. I just got back from Chicago and I try to limit the amount of liquids as much as possible when I fly because I don't often check bags, and at the same time, try to find products I can use in different ways. Lotion, whether it be body, face, or hand, becomes just lotion.

There are a lot of Burt's Bees products here, I thought it'd be a good time to try them out. Burt's Bees has a reputation for being Earth friendly and using natural ingredients, and since their products are in major grocery chains, their stuff is fairly easy to find. Not pictured here is a small travel sized bottle of Burt's Bees Nourishing Milk & Honey lotion that I lost in Chicago and I'm honestly not sorry that I did. It worked all right, it absorbed quickly, was moisturizing (could've been more moisturizing tho), but OH MY GOD THE SMELL WAS SO STRONG BLEECH. Not to mention it also contains phenoxyethanol, a chemical that's used as a preservative and that's not as toxic as parabens, but it's suspected of causing both developmental and reproductive toxicity, which is bad news for me since stuff like that runs in my family.

Anyway, I've found the Trader Joes hand lotion to be a much superior product, it's not stinky, doesn't have either of those chemicals and it's also vegan! It's also very moisturizing and it works very well, and I've used it for my face so yeah, APPROVED.

Back to Burt's Bees products, the white tree facial wipes... okay. I bought these because I liked the amount of wipes I got so I could use them for cleaning my make up brushes, as well as cleaning my face... but bleh. Again with the extremely strong smell, it also has phenoxyethanol, ranks 4.0 on health on the GoodGuide.com, and I didn't like how it sort of... stung when I used it to wipe my face. I'll probably use up the rest of the package but I don't think I'll pick this product up again.

However, I did really like the Burt's Bees lip shimmers! The colors are pretty and can be easily built up for a more opaque finish or kept to a light finish, and it has peppermint oil so there's a nice tingly sensation. Aside from the nice colors, it also works well as a lip balm which is great since my lips have been dry lately. I have it in strawberry and rhubarb, but I'm also considering getting some of the other colors as well. Burt's Bees's best products are their lip balms anyway so it's not surprising that out of all of their products, I liked their lip stuff the best.

Okay... now onto the dilemma. I've been given some products by some family friends on my parents' recent trip to Korea:

The peach shaped container holds a lip balm from Tony Moly and the two bottles are Skin Food's Fresh Apple toner and emulsion. Now the lip balm... I couldn't help myself, the container was just so cute that I ripped it open and tried it... and the lip balm itself tastes like peach Hi-Chew candies... T_T

However, I haven't ripped open Skin Food's products yet, and according to Wikipedia, "The appealing factor of Skin Food is the use of natural food and produce in its original form as ingredients in their products. In addition, the use of natural ingredients also plays a significant role in their success today." Which is nice but I can't read their ingredients list to see what preservatives they use... and I can read in Korean but I don't the names of the chemicals I'm trying to avoid in Korean. My mother read it over for me but couldn't help me either.

So... what do I do with these?! I've been curious about Skin Food's products but after working so hard to get rid of chemicals, to have these bits of adorable temptation fall back into my lap is maddening! I also don't want to seem ungrateful to the people who gave this stuff to me because they don't know what I'm trying to do and my parents have no idea how to explain their strange hippie daughter to family friends... but they're in Korea and don't read my lj anyway. So yeah. If anyone wants them, let me know... I'm scared of mailing these though because they're made of glass. D:

Ok that peach container is to die for... uhm can you like scoop out the existing lip balm and put something else in? LOL
I've found Burt's Bees is actually not AS natural as some of the other products u can find at Whole Foods. It's definitely the more natural product at Target though. =D

Yeah, the interesting thing about Burt's Bees is just the utter variety they have and how easy they are to get to. But every time I buy a product from them that's not lip balm, I end up not liking it so that's pretty much it for me. XD

HAHAHA I want to see some of the clothes your family sends you!

I recently picked up a body butter (uhm brand is Pacifica, the tuscan blood orange one *yummy*) at Whole Foods that I'm really liking! I have stupid dry skin and the 2 other lotions I tried from Whole Foods weren't cutting it. I tried Alba Botanicals and Desert Essence - both of which are nice but apparently not good enough for AJ-the-snake. =P
